Bridge foundation work continues on Hwy 53 project
Coffee and Conversation takes place Feb. 4
VIRGINIA, Minn. – Work continues this week on steel piling that will form the underground base for the bridge on the Highway 53 relocation project. The piling work is almost complete for the piers on the west end of the bridge and will move to the east pier in the coming weeks.
Crews also finished construction of a road, or causeway, across the narrow portion of pit, which will lie under the bridge as it is constructed. Creating the causeway will allow the construction work to occur on land instead of water.
In the coming weeks, crews will continue to remove ledge rock at the east bridge abutment and will begin to drill and blast ledge rock for the roadway that will run between the east abutment and Landfill Road.
Project officials also announced that the next Coffee and Conversation will take place on Thursday, Feb. 4, at 10 a.m. at the MnDOT headquarters in Virginia, Minn. The address is 101 N. Hoover Road, Virginia.
