Hwy 53 resurfacing, accessibility, safety improvement project begins May 9 in Eveleth, Virginia Midway Area
DULUTH, Minn. — Motorists traveling on Highway 53 in the Eveleth and Virginia Midway Area will encounter several work zones as a project to resurface the pavement from Highway 37 to just south of Vermilion Drive begins today.
The project also includes accessibility, safety and drainage improvements. The project is scheduled for completion in mid-June.
Northbound and southbound traffic is restricted to a single lane at several culvert replacement locations.
In the areas where traffic is restricted to single-lane, the paved driving surface will be about nine-feet-wide, which is narrower than normal. Motorists, especially those driving wide vehicles are advised to slow down and use caution.
Throughout the project motorists can anticipate single-lane traffic and short, intermittent, full closures not longer than 15 minutes. Flaggers will direct traffic.
