Orange barrels on a highway

Hwy 53 intersection improvements at Haines Rd begin Aug. 8

Safety improvement project includes signal and pedestrian accessibility improvements

DULUTH, Minn. – Motorists and pedestrians in Duluth may experience delays at the intersection of Highway 53 and County Road 91/Haines Road beginning Aug. 8 as crews upgrade the intersection.

Motorists can expect occasional lane closures during the project, which will result in several improvements:

  • Traffic signal upgrades with pedestrian pushbuttons and audible beacons
  • Reconstructed sidewalks with pedestrian accessible curb ramps
  • St. Louis County fiber optic network upgrades

The project should last through September, weather permitting. When complete, it will improve safety for pedestrians and motorists.
