I-535/Blatnik Bridge lanes close, detour begins Aug. 22 in Duluth

DULUTH, Minn. — A scheduled repair project on the I-535/Blatnik Bridge begins Monday, Aug. 22. Both southbound lanes and one northbound lane will close for approximately four weeks. Motorists traveling north on the Blatnik Bridge should expect delays.

Southbound motorists may use the Bong Bridge as an alternate route. All lanes on the Bong Bridge will remain open while the Blatnik Bridge is undergoing repairs. Southbound traffic on the Bong Bridge is expected to be heavy and motorists should allow extra time.

On about Sept. 28, both northbound lanes and one southbound lane will close for four weeks. The entire project is expected to be complete Oct. 28.

In addition to the bridge repairs, pavement repairs will be made to I-535 between I-35 and the Blatnik Bridge. Pavement work on the Garfield Avenue ramps will also be done as part of this project.

Motorists are asked to be patient and drive carefully near the work zone areas.
