Causeway construction nears completion on Hwy 53 project

Web cam allows public to view project progress

VIRGINIA, Minn. – Work on a causeway, or raised road, across the Rouchleau Pit should be done in two weeks, according to Highway 53 relocation project staff. The road will provide access to construction workers as they build a bridge over the pit, which is a key component in the highway relocation project.

Crews are also nearing completion on the underground foundations, or piling, for the bridge’s west pier. They continue excavation work on the east side of the pit, which includes some rock blasting to make room for pier work that will begin there in several weeks.

The project team has set up a web cam to allow the public to view construction progress. The link for the web cam is available on the project website, www.mndot.gov/hwy53relocation and at http://tinyurl.com/jmf4qc3. The latest project quarterly report and a project profile are also available on the project website.
