Concrete decks will be built next week for Hwy 53 bridges
VIRGINIA, Minn. – Concrete will be flowing in the coming weeks when crews begin pouring bridge decks on the Highway 53 relocation project.
Workers have been installing stainless steel reinforcing bar and building concrete forms on the Rouchleau Pit bridge for several weeks, according to Pat Huston, project director. He anticipates they will begin pouring that bridge deck this week.
Huston added that crews are installing rebar and building concrete forms on the Highway 135 bridge. He anticipates crews will begin pouring the concrete deck sometime in the next two weeks.
The Highway 135 detour route is still in effect and provides motorists with a more direct route to and from Virginia. The new detour route will be along Mineview Road and Highway 135. Traffic on westbound Highway 135 will not be able to access southbound Highway 53.
Highway 53 traffic remains with a single lane in each direction on southbound Highway 53.
That single lane traffic will run from Midway Road to a half-mile north of Second Avenue in Virginia. Crews are reconstructing northbound Highway 53 and building the new Highway 53/Highway 135 interchange. This work will be completed in August.
