Resurfacing projects update and safety reminder, Hibbing

Duluth, Minn. – Highway projects in Hibbing are on schedule despite recent rain.

Rainy and wet conditions do effect pavement striping, as the road surface must be dry to paint.
MnDOT asks that motorists drive with caution through all workzone areas. And, until all pavement markings are finished on these projects drive with extreme caution — especially at night and when it is raining.

Paving on Highway 169 remains set to finish this week and next week crews will complete pavement markings and shouldering. Once work on 169 is complete, traffic control will be removed and workers will resume paving on Highway 37. After paving the work on mailbox supports, guardrail, and pavement markings will finish up.

“It has been an unusually rainy season,” said Nancy Graham, MnDOT District 1 engineer. “We know the public is concerned about these projects and we want to assure everyone that work in on schedule. We appreciate your patience. Weather permitting paving will be done by mid-October.”

Once finished, motorists will enjoy a smoother ride surface and safer highway facilities.
