Cloquet Highway 33 roundabout opens to traffic soon

Duluth, Minn. – The roundabout being built on Highway 33 near Interstate 35 may open to traffic as early as next week, weather permitting. The ramps to and from I-35 and the frontage road will reopen at the same time as the roundabout.

Work on the project will continue through the end of September with the construction of a free right turn lane from the southbound I-35 ramp to northbound Highway 33. During the final weeks of construction traffic from southbound I-35 to northbound Highway 33 will be required to use the roundabout.

Roundabouts are safer than traditional intersections, help maintain traffic flow and reduce fuel costs.
