Open house for international bridge replacement in Baudette set for May 25

Bridge connecting Baudette and Rainy River, Ontario to be replaced in 2018

BEMIDJI, Minn. — Area residents, business owners and others are invited to attend an open house on Wednesday, May 25 to view details on the replacement of the Baudette/Rainy River International Bridge.

Participants can attend from 4 to 7 p.m. at either location on the border:

  • Lake of the Woods Ambulance Garage, 111 Southwest First Avenue, Baudette, Minn.
  • Rainy River Recreation Centre, 219 Government Road, Rainy River, Ontario

There will be no formal presentation, but visualizations of the proposed bridge will be on display.

The focus of this open house will be to view the results of the alternative design evaluations, to gather additional feedback on the preferred plan, and answer questions about the study. This is the third open house for the project, the previous was held on Oct. 28, 2015.

The project to replace the bridge is a joint effort between the Minnesota Department of Transportation and the Ontario Ministry of Transportation. It will provide a more structurally sound crossing, which will improve mobility between the two cities.

The project's environmental study will be completed this winter. The Final bridge design will take place in 2017 and construction is slated to begin in 2018.
