Final painting of Kennedy Bridge in East Grand Forks begins Sept. 9

BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Minnesota Department of Transportation announced today the final painting of the Kennedy Bridge in East Grand Forks will begin Monday, Sept. 9. Contractors will begin final painting touch-up work on the Kennedy Bridge that they were unable to complete this spring, due to flooding of the Red River.  The work is expected to be completed by Sept. 13, weather permitting. Motorists can expect minor delays and outside land closures.

The Kennedy Bridge has been under construction as part of a two-year reconstruction project. In June 2018, work on the bridge was substantially completed and it was opened to four lanes of traffic.

The Kennedy Bridge was built in 1963 and currently serves 23,000 vehicles per day. Along with preserving the historic nature of the bridge, the project improves safety for motorists, pedestrians and bicyclists.

The $15.66 million project is a joint design of MnDOT, the North Dakota Department of Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration. Visit the project website at mndot.gov/d2/projects/kennedybridge for more information or join our Facebook group, facebook.com/groups/mndotnorthwest.
