Hwy 4–Sauk Centre to Paynesville

Reconstruct and improve Hwy 4 between I-94 and Hwy 55 in Stearns and Kandiyohi counties in 2019.

Detour until early October

Hwy 4 is closed between I-94 and Hwy 55 until early October. Detour uses I-94, Hwy 71 and Hwy 55. Detour map, PDF

Also, Hwy 55 is detoured in Paynesville until early August between Hwy 4 and Hwy 23. Detour uses Kandiyohi CR 6 and Hwy 23. Detour for both projects map, PDF

Local access

Hwy 4 will be maintained for businesses and residents only. Expect gravel surfaces, access changes, and single-lane closures with flaggers. Crews will work north to south on the project.

Pipe work, full-closures

The road will be temporarily impassable at some locations to work on underground pipes/culverts. For your safety and ours, we request that you access your home or business along Hwy 4 from the closest side road to your destination. Seek nearest side road map, PDF

July 22-August 2

Crews will replace one pipe/culvert at a time and move southward on Hwy 4 from I-94 to Greenwald.

Meire Grove, Lake Henry open

Hwy 4 remains open in Meire Grove (reconstruct 2021) and Lake Henry (reconstructed 2018).
