Hwy 27—Osakis area

I-94 in Douglas County to Hwy 71 in Todd County

Watch for work crews, gravel road surfaces

April 1, 2020 - MnDOT will repair deteriorating pavement on this stretch of Hwy 27 between Osakis and Hwy 71 south of Long Prairie, caused by the early spring freeze/thaw cycle. Some areas will remain gravel until asphalt plants are operational in May. Here's what to expect:

  • Workers, heavy moving equipment with periodic weekday daylight lane or shoulder closures
  • Warning road signs, reduced speeds and gravel road surfaces

Improve road, bridges

MnDOT will reconstruct and improve 14 miles of Hwy 27 between I-94 near Osakis and Hwy 71 south of Long Prairie in Douglas and Todd counties. Work is scheduled for 2022.

    The Lake Wobegon Trail bridge over Hwy 27 in Osakis was built by the railroad in 1939. Hwy 27 has a 14 ft height clearance at the bridge, which is below today's standards.

    Summary of work

    • Reconstruct the road surface (full-depth reclaim) and widen shoulders from Douglas CR 82/Todd CR 51 to Hwy 71
    • Reconstruct three bridges over waterways near Osakis, includes the bridge over the Sauk River east of Todd CR 37
    • Reconstruct the Lake Wobegon Trail bridge over Hwy 27 in Osakis
    • Resurface the road and shoulders (mill and overlay) from Douglas CR 82/Todd CR 51 in Osakis and I-94
    • Repair or replace drainage pipes
