Hwy 79 detour between I-94, Elbow Lake begins April 11
DETROIT LAKES, Minn. — Motorists on Highway 79 will encounter a detour between Elbow Lake and Interstate 94 when a road resurfacing project begins as early as Monday, April 11.
During the project, motorists will detour to Highway 59 and I-94. Highway 79 will be impassable at times while crews remove and replace poor materials in the road base in six locations.
Only residents who live within the road closure or motorists whose destination falls within the closure will be allowed to use Highway 79. When a road is closed it is illegal for through-traffic to travel on that section of highway.
The road will remain open within the city of Elbow Lake. All work in town will be completed with intermittent lane closures.
The work is expected to last approximately two months.
Central Specialties of Alexandria is the prime contractor for the $3.3 million project.
More information about the project is available at www.mndot.gov/d4/projects/hwy79/.
When the project is complete, motorists will notice a smoother, safer ride along 11 miles of Highway 79. This project helps ensure MnDOT’s transportation system will continue to serve the state for many years.
