Orange barrels on a highway

Hwy 29 traffic shift in Alexandria begins as early as Aug. 9

East side I-94 ramps in Alexandria also set to reopen

DETROIT LAKES, Minn. – Traffic on Highway 29 in Alexandria will shift to the new bridge over Interstate 94 as early as late afternoon Tuesday, Aug. 9. At the same time the traffic shifts, crews will reopen I-94 ramps on the east side of Highway 29.

The traffic shift will take place over several hours. Motorists should expect delays and be prepared to follow the direction of flaggers.

Once the traffic shifts and the ramps reopen, crews will begin removing the old Highway 29 bridge over I-94.

That work will require overnight closures of the interstate starting Wednesday, Aug. 10. Traffic will be directed off I-94 at the Highway 29 exit ramps and immediately back onto the entrance ramps.

The overall bridge replacement and ramp reconstruction project is on track for completion by the end of this construction season.

More information about the work is available on the project website: www.mndot.gov/d4/projects/alexi94hwy29.
