Construction begins April 29 on Hwys 55, 59 and 79 in Elbow Lake
DETROIT LAKES, Minn. – Motorists traveling on Highways 55, 59 and 79 will encounter alternating lane shifts/closures and parking restrictions in Elbow Lake beginning Monday, April 29, as crews begin a road construction project.
Crews will start work on Highway 55, beginning with storm sewer work. Cross-street intersections may temporarily close in the areas where crews are working. From there, crews will move to the north end of the project, resurfacing Highways 59 and 79.
Pedestrian accessibility improvements will also be completed as part of this project.
Access to businesses and residences along the work zone will be maintained during construction.
Public information meetings will be held weekly on Fridays at noon to provide construction updates, upcoming traffic impacts and an opportunity for the public to ask questions. Those meetings will be held at the Grant County Office Building, 15 Central Avenue N, Elbow Lake.
The project is scheduled to be completed by the end of June. Upon completion, motorists will experience a smoother road surface; pedestrian accessibility improvements, including upgraded sidewalks and curb ramps; and storm sewer upgrades.
Riley Bros Construction, based out of Morris, is the prime contractor for the $2.6 million project. For more information and to sign up for email updates, visit the project website at mndot.gov/d4/projects/elbowlake.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation urges motorists to slow down in work zones and never enter a roadway that has been blocked with barriers or cones.
