Lane closures set Feb. 13 on Highway 52 for CapX2020 work near Hader

ROCHESTER, Minn. – Motorists on Highway 52 will encounter lane closures Saturday, Feb. 13 as safety barriers and equipment are moved for the CapX2020 power line project about 7 miles north of Zumbrota, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation and CapX2020.

Work is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m., Saturday when crews move barriers and signs north from the highway near 420th Street to a site south of Goodhue County Road 8 at Hader. Traffic will be narrowed to single lanes in each direction at each work site. Work is expected to take all day. There will be no traffic stoppages.

There are eight CapX2020 crossings planned for Highway 52 through May. Additional work is occurring on the highway where existing lines are being removed. Motorists are asked to pay attention to their driving in the work zones and not stop on the roadway or shoulder.

•     Watch for signs, equipment and workers
•     Minimize distractions, such as using cell phones, eating or drinking
•     Avoid tailgating
•     Follow posted speed limits and directional signs
•     Stay in one lane while driving through a work zone

About the CapX2020 Hampton-North Rochester project
Construction on the Hampton-Rochester-La Crosse 345 kV transmission line started north of Rochester in early 2013 and is expected to be complete in 2016. The transmission line will run between the new Hampton substation near Hampton, Minnesota, the new North Rochester substation north of Pine Island. It continues on to cross the Mississippi River near Alma, Wisconsin. Single steel pole structures for the 345 kV line are between 140 and 170 feet tall and spaced 800 to 1,000 feet apart.
