Second Street traffic rerouted during week of March 14 for Winona Bridge project

ROCHESTER, Minn. – Second Street traffic in Winona will be rerouted during daytime hours between Huff Street and Washington Street during the week of March 14 for road construction related to the Winona Bridge Project, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

Work on the two-block segment includes decking for the new bridge deck that goes over Second Street. Traffic needs to be rerouted at times during the week to ensure safety for motorists and the workers.

The rerouting will send traffic from Second Street to Fourth Street and will occur from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. It is anticipated that the decking activity will take five days to complete.

Ames Construction, the contractor, will monitor traffic to ensure that backups do not occur during the morning and afternoon commuting times. Message boards will be posted and the signal at the Second Street and Riverview/Huff intersection will be switched to a flashing red. Flashing red indicates motorists should stop and then proceed when the intersection is clear to safely proceed.

MnDOT urges motorists to always be attentive, drive with caution, slow down in work zones and never enter a road blocked with barriers or cones.

The site staging plan and detours can be found at MnDOT’s project website at: www.dot.state.mn.us/winonabridge/docs/winonabridgestaginglayouts.pdf
