MnDOT seeks Zumbrota park impact comments on Hwy 58 bridge replacement

ROCHESTER, Minn. — The Minnesota Department of Transportation is seeking comments from the public about effects to South Park in Zumbrota related to the Highway 58 bridge replacement over Highway 52.

The project, which is scheduled for 2017, would replace the bridge, as well as include improvements for pedestrians and bicyclists. The bridge approaches and short portions of the exit and entrance ramps will also be improved. The project is in the design phase.

It is anticipated that MnDOT and the city of Zumbrota will request the Federal Highway Administration to determine that the project will result in minor impact (approximately 0.02 acre) to the park, which is east of the northbound Highway 52 exit ramp.

Information on this impact and avoidance, minimization, mitigation or enhancement measures is available at mndot.gov/d6/projects/hwy58-bridge and at the following locations:

City Hall
175 West Ave.
Zumbrota, MN 55992

Zumbrota Public Library
100 West Ave.
Zumbrota, MN 55992

Comments must be submitted by June 1,2016, to Jai Kalsy, MnDOT project manager, 2900 48th St. NW Rochester, MN 55901-5848; 507-286-7545; jai.kalsy@state.mn.us.  Comments will become part of the official record and will be considered when making future project related decisions.

MnDOT urges motorists to follow these recommendations in work zones: Stay alert, watch for signs, equipment and workers, minimize distractions, such as using cell phones, eating or drinking, avoid tailgating, follow posted speed limits and directional signs, and stay in one lane while driving through a work zone.
