I-35 bridge painting near Northfield completed, lanes reopened
ROCHESTER, Minn. – Traffic lanes were reopened Friday, June 24 on Interstate 35 between Northfield and Elko after crews completed a bridge painting project, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
The project required lane closures between exit 76 and exit 69 on I-35.
Because of traffic volumes on I-35, traffic backups were common, especially on weekends.
Other bridges will require painting as part of MnDOT’s annual summer maintenance work to maintain and care for bridges. MnDOT will post news releases (www.dot.state.mn.us/news.html), note on its road conditions map (www.511mn.org) and include in weekend traffic impact reports (Metro www.dot.state.mn.us/weekendtrafficimpacts/index.html and Greater Minnesota www.dot.state.mn.us/statewidetrafficimpacts/) when those projects begin.
MnDOT urges motorists to always be attentive, drive with caution, slow down in work zones and never enter a road blocked with barriers or cones.
