Hwy 42 bridge replacement begins July 5 in Elgin with traffic detour
ROCHESTER, Minn. — Motorists on Highway 42 will be detoured around a bridge replacement project on the north side of Elgin beginning Tuesday, July 5, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
The bridge replacement is part of a $1.8 million project with Minnowa Construction of Harmony, Minn., as the prime contractor. It also includes as curb, gutter and storm sewer replacement, and paving work on Highway 42 in Elgin. The bridge work will begin on July 5, while the paving work is scheduled to begin Aug. 1. The work is scheduled to be completed by Sept. 30.
The detour for Highway 42 northbound is Olmsted County Road 2 east to Olmsted County Road 10 north, which becomes Wabasha County Road 4 and connects into Plainview. Local traffic will be able to access Elgin.
A public meeting for residents to learn about traffic access during the project is scheduled for 5-6 p.m., Wednesday, July 6, at the Elgin Fire Hall, 135 E. Main St.
Motorists should always be attentive, drive with caution, slow down in work zones and never enter a road blocked with barriers or cones.
