Temporary lane closures, stoppages set Aug. 10 near Faribault for I-35 power line work

ROCHESTER, Minn. — Motorists on Interstate 35 near Faribault will experience temporary traffic lane closures and stoppages on the afternoon of Wednesday, August 10 while Xcel workers install new overhead electrical conductors, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

Traffic will be stopped in both direction near the crossing over Western Avenue (Rice County Road 93) south of Faribault until 3 p.m. today, Wednesday, Aug. 10. Traffic will be temporarily stopped during the work day for approximately 10 minutes, so Xcel crews can install a new conductor. Stoppages should be expected to occur no more than four times in the day. Once completed all traffic lanes will be reopened. Additionally, single lane closures in both directions on the bridge at the crossing for workers and equipment.

Lane restrictions in both directions will be in effect during this work for the safety of motorists and workers.

MnDOT urges motorists to follow these recommendations in work zones:

  • Stay alert
  • Watch for signs, equipment and workers
  • Minimize distractions, such as using cell phones, eating or drinking
  • Avoid tailgating
  • Follow posted speed limits and directional signs
  • Stay in one lane while driving through a work zone
