Orange barrels on a highway

Hwy 218 traffic detoured north of Iowa border for truck rollover in Mower County

ROCHESTER, Minn. (9:15 a.m.) – Motorists on Highway 218 between Austin and Lyle in Mower County are being detoured after a semitrailer rollover closed the highway Friday morning, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

Motorists on Interstate 90 in Austin will see message boards directing them to detour Highway 218 south by taking Highway 105 south, which runs parallel to the west of Highway 218. Northbound motorists coming from Lyle and the Iowa border will be detoured west on Mower County Road 5 to connect with Highway 105 north.

MnDOT will announce the reopening of the highway via its Twitter account on www.twitter.com/mndotsoutheast.

MnDOT urges motorists to follow these recommendations in work zones:
•     Stay alert
•     Watch for signs, equipment and workers
•     Minimize distractions, such as using cell phones, eating or drinking
•     Avoid tailgating
•     Follow posted speed limits and directional signs
•     Stay in one lane while driving through a work zone
