Hwy 42 bridge opens in Elgin as paving, bridge replacement project ends
ROCHESTER, Minn. — The Highway 42 bridge on the north end of Elgin is opening to traffic today (Nov. 4), according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
Traffic is expected to be traveling on the new bridge and roadway in the afternoon.
Work on the Highway 42 bridge replacement on the north end of Elgin started on July 11. The paving work to the south of the bridge began in August and included curb, gutter and storm sewer replacement in Elgin. It was a $1.8 million project with Minnowa Construction of Harmony, Minn., as the prime contractor.
Traffic had been detoured during the project because the bridge was under construction. The detour is being removed with the opening of the bridge. Motorists should remain alert near the construction zone. Workers will remain in the area with periodic lane closures to finish up landscaping work to complete the project, but traffic will be open on the roadway and bridge.
Motorists should always be attentive, drive with caution, slow down in work zones and never enter a road blocked with barriers or cones.
