Lane, shoulder closures planned on I-35, Hwy 14 for tree, brush removal
ROCHESTER, Minn. – Motorists south of Owatonna on Interstate 35 and Highway 14 will encounter traffic restrictions on Tuesday (Feb. 7) and Wednesday (Feb. 8) as crews clear trees and vegetation near bridges that will be replaced beginning later this spring, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
Weather permitting, work to clear the trees and vegetation will begin Tuesday with shoulder closures on I-35 in both directions at the Turtle Creek Bridge, which is approximately 1 mile south of the Highway 14 interchange. Shoulder closures will also occur on Highway 14 eastbound just west of the Steele County Road 45 interchange.
On Wednesday, the work will continue on Highway 14 eastbound, but with a right lane closure between the I-35 interchange and the Steele County Road 45 interchange.
MnDOT plans to replace six bridges on I-35 and four bridges on Highway 14, all south of Owatonna, beginning this spring and in 2018.
On I-35, bridges over the Straight River, Turtle Creek and the Union Pacific Railroad are scheduled for replacement. On Highway 14, bridges over the Straight River and the Union Pacific Railroad are scheduled for replacement. Bridges southbound on I-35 and eastbound on Highway 14 will be replaced in 2017. The northbound and westbound bridges will be replaced in 2018.
