Hwy 61 lane closures planned in Red Wing for crack sealing work
RED WING, Minn. – Motorists on Highway 61 through Red Wing will encounter lane closures beginning today, May 4 while crack sealing work occurs, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
Construction crews will be working on Highway 61 south of Red Wing to the Highway 19 junction. The crack sealing work requires that one lane be closed to safely perform the work. Motorists will be directed to an adjacent lane through the work zone.
On the two-lane portions of Hwy 61 south of Red Wing traffic will experience short delays. Motorists will be stopped by flaggers who will ensure groups of vehicles safely move one direction through the construction zone while the other direction of traffic is stopped. Groups of northbound and southbound traffic will take turns using the single open lane while being directed by flaggers.
Work is expected to be completed Monday, weather permitting.
Fahrner Asphalt Sealers, Inc., of Plover Wis., is the prime contractor for the work. Overall, the contract is for $456,987, which includes crack sealing on portions of nine highways in southeast Minnesota.
Motorists should always be attentive, drive with caution, slow down in work zones and never enter a road blocked with barriers or cones. For real-time traffic information in Minnesota, call 511 or visit www.511mn.org.
