Public open house set Feb. 20 for Hwy 61 reconstruction in Lake City
LAKE CITY, Minn. – The Minnesota Department of Transportation invites the public to attend an information open house on Thursday, Feb. 20 to learn about the stages of the Lake City 2020 reconstruction project and detours that will take place.
The meeting is from 4-7 p.m. in the Lake City Council Chambers, 205 W. Center St. There will be no formal presentation, so stop in any time between 4-7 p.m. The project team will be available to answer any questions and provide details.
The Hwy 61 project will span from Central Point Rd. to Elm St. in Lake City and includes several improvements. Deteriorated pavement will be replaced, the 4-lane highway will be changed to 3-lanes, continuous sidewalks will be developed and an off-street trail for bicyclists and green space will be constructed. Benefits include safer traveling speeds, improved pedestrian elements, expanded life of roadway and decreased roadway water run-off into Lake Pepin.
The City of Lake City is updating their utilities during the project as well. The water main will be replaced from Madison St. to Elm St. and the sanitary sewer will be replaced from Lyon Ave. to Center St. (one block).
The meeting is a chance for people to understand this year’s reconstruction project by learning about details of the work, estimated timelines and traffic impacts.
