Highway culvert work to start in August

MANKATO, Minn. — Motorists are advised to be aware of work taking place on and adjacent to area highways beginning in August.

The week of August 7, culvert repairs will take place on Highway 60 in the St. James area. The week of August 17, the workers will move to Interstate 90 and Highway 75 near Luverne. Around August 25, motorists will see lane/shoulder closures on I-90 near Fairmont.

Eighty-eight culverts will be inspected and repaired.  Many of the aging culverts will be lined to increase their service life.  Culverts are an important function of the substructure of the roadway.

Michels Corporation of Brownsville, Wisconsin was awarded the contract with a bid of $1,431,142.

MnDOT reminds motorists: When traveling on a road with two or more lanes, drivers must keep over one full lane away from stopped emergency vehicles with flashing lights activated — ambulance, fire, law enforcement, maintenance and construction vehicles.
