Hwy 60 crossing topic of Jan. 16 meeting in Elysian

MANKATO, Minn. – The city of Elysian is hosting a meeting with the Minnesota Department of Transportation to get public input into the possibility of a pedestrian crossing on Highway 60. Anyone interested is encouraged to attend the 6 p.m. meeting on Tuesday, January 16 at the Elysian City Hall.

The focus of the meeting will be to review the current traffic conditions on Highway 60 in Elysian, discuss the pros and cons of various crossings and determine what makes sense for pedestrians in Elysian. City officials along with MnDOT staff will be present to receive input from residents and business owners.

MnDOT is working on the development a project in 2020 on Highway 60 from the junction with Highway 14 to the junction with Highway 13 in Waterville.  In addition to resurfacing the roadway, the project includes updating the pedestrian ramps at sidewalks, access, turn lanes, additional lighting, sidewalk and curb and gutter.

MnDOT has currently allocated $16 million for the 2020 project.  MnDOT has posted the draft designs on a website for the project that can be found at mndot.gov/d7/projects/hwy60madisonlake/.
