TRAVEL ADVISORY: Southbound Hwy 169 Mankato to St. Peter open by 7 p.m.

Highway 93 and 99 Minnesota River crossings poised for potential closures

MANKATO, Minn. – (4 p.m.) The southbound lanes of Highway 169 between Mankato and St. Peter are expected to open by 7 p.m. today, Thursday, April 18.

The Highway 169 southbound lanes closed yesterday morning as mudslides began during the heavy rains and continued into the night.  Northbound Highway 169 has remained open.

MnDOT crews are closely monitoring Highway 93 at Le Sueur and Highway 99 east of St. Peter as the Minnesota River rises to yet another crest.  Motorists are advised that both highways have the potential to close again.

Other Highways that remain closed:

  • Highway 19 east of Henderson (closed March 19 due to flooding)
  • Highway 93 south of Henderson (closed March 16 due to flooding)

When a road is closed it is illegal to travel in that area. Motorists can be fined up to $1,000 and/or 90 days in jail. In addition, if travelers need to be rescued from a closed road, other expenses and penalties will apply.
