Open house for Willmar Wye project set for Feb. 25 in Willmar

WILLMAR, Minn. – Area residents, business owners and others are invited to attend an open house on Thursday, Feb. 25 to learn about the Willmar Rail Connector & Industrial Park Access (Wye) project.

The open house will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Kandiyohi County Health and Human Services building in the multi-purpose room, 2200 23rd St. NE, in Willmar.

Attendees will be able to view two potential design concepts, ask questions and give feedback.  There will be no formal presentation.

Individuals not able to make the open house are encouraged to visit the web site at www.dot.state.mn.us/d8/projects/willmarwye/index.html to learn more about the project.

The Willmar Wye is a public-private partnership between MnDOT, BNSF, Kandiyohi County, city of Willmar and the Kandiyohi & city of Willmar Economic Development Commission to build a railroad bypass on the west side of the city of Willmar.

Key benefits include the diversion of trains from downtown Willmar, highway improvements, economic growth and enhanced quality of life.  Construction is projected to begin in 2018.
