MnDOT urges motorists to use caution when driving in floods
WILLMAR, Minn. – MnDOT is urging motorists to drive with caution in Lac Qui Parle County in west central Minnesota and northwestern Chippewa County in west central Minnesota.
The National Weather Service in the Twin Cities has issued a flood warning for Lac Qui Parle and northwestern Chippewa County until 3:15 p.m. today, July 11. Some locations that will experience flooding include Madison, Dawson, Appleton, Milan, Bellingham, Marietta, Cerro Gordo, Providence, Holloway, Nassau, Louisburg and Florida Creek Wildlife Management Area.
Do not travel around barricades or into flooded areas. Six inches of water will reach the bottom of most passenger cars, causing loss of control and possible stalling. A foot of water will float many vehicles. Two feet of rushing water can carry away most vehicles including sport utility vehicles and pick-ups.
