Open for business: I-494 construction update set for March 21

ROSEVILLE, Minn. — Members of the business community and those interested in the Interstate 494 construction project in the western Twin Cities Metro area are invited to learn about the upcoming year of work. The open house will be held Monday, March 21 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Plymouth Library, 15700 36th Ave. N in Plymouth, Minn.

Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about construction activities, traffic impacts and detours, and practical tips to help businesses thrive during this year’s construction. Representatives from the Minnesota Department of Transportation and project staff will be on hand to answer questions.

This year’s construction is scheduled to begin in April 2016 and run through late fall 2016. Work includes:

  • Repairing the pavement on northbound I-494 between I-394 and I-94/694.
  • Adding a third lane on northbound I-494 between Highway 55 and I-94/694.
  • Building noise walls along the interstate.

This project will lessen congestion during peak hours, and provide a smoother road surface and longer lasting bridges on I-494.

This work is expected to cause traffic impacts and delays as all I-494 traffic between I-394 and I-94/694 will be shifted to the southbound side of I-494. There will be two lanes of traffic in each direction on I-494 in the project area. Motorists also can expect several I-494 ramp closures during construction.

Those who are unable to attend the event can learn more about the I-494 project by visiting the project website at www.dot.state.mn.us/metro/projects/i494plymouth/index.html, or calling the project hotline at 1-877-219-4940. Event materials also will be posted on the project website in late March.
