Hwy 8 local detour now open to car traffic only
Truck traffic still required to detour through Osceola
ROSEVILLE, Minn. — Motorists traveling to and from Taylors Falls now have a shorter detour option. Construction crews have finished paving Tern Avenue. Passenger and recreational vehicles can now take the posted detour of Tern Avenue to County Rd 37/310th Street.
Highway 8 between the north and south intersections of Highway 95 has been closed since late March due to an unexpected slope repair. The road is expected to reopen in October.
Commercial trucks and tractor-trailers must still take the truck detour through Osceola using Highway 95, Highway 243 and Wisconsin Highway 35. Local residents and Wildwood Campground visitors can continue to access the area from the west end of the Highway 8 closure. Access to Interstate Park is provided from the east end of the Highway 8 closure.
The work is part of the Highway 8 resurfacing and improvement project. Crews will be replacing pavement on Highway 8 from the west intersection of Highway 95/Tern Ave. in Franconia and Shafer Townships to the St Croix River Bridge in Taylors Falls. The work will require the highway to be closed to through traffic. Detours are posted for cars and trucks. The project also includes constructing a roundabout at the west intersection of Highway 8 and Highway 95.
