Resurfacing of I-35W begins July 5 between Highway 36 in Roseville and I-694 in Arden Hills
ROSEVILLE, Minn. – Resurfacing of three-and-a-half miles of Interstate 35W between Highway 36 in Roseville and I-694 in Arden Hills begins Tuesday, July 5.
During the six-week project, motorists will encounter overnight lane and ramp closures in each direction of the interstate from 7 p.m. through 5 a.m. Monday nights through Saturday mornings. Work begins on the northbound lanes for approximately two weeks and will then switch to the southbound lanes for two weeks. A schedule of the lane and ramp closures can be found at www.mndot.gov/metro/projects/i35wardenhills/. The list will be updated weekly. Drivers should use alternate routes to avoid congestion.
In addition to the nightly closures, I-35W will be completely closed two weekends (one for each direction). Tentative dates for the closures are:
- Northbound I-35W: 10 p.m. Friday, July 15 to 6 a.m. Monday, July 18
- Southbound I-35W: 10 p.m. Friday, July 29 to 6 a.m. Monday, Aug. 1
During the weekend closures, traffic will detour on I-694, I-35E and Highway 36.
Work is expected to be completed by mid-August, weather permitting.
Resurfacing the interstate extends the life of the highway and saves money while providing smoother and more reliable transportation for Twin Cities’ travelers.
