Hwy 61 traffic lane shift in Forest Lake begins July 5
ROSEVILLE, Minn. – Motorists on Highway 61 in Forest Lake will encounter a single lane in both directions when traffic is shifted to the west side of the road on Tuesday, July 5, weather permitting.
Beginning at 7 a.m., both directions of Highway 61 between the north intersection of Highway 97/ Scandia Trail N and 202nd Street will be shifted to the southbound Highway 61 lanes. Motorists will be traveling in the partial constructed roundabouts. Highway 61 motorists trying to go eastbound on the north intersection of Highway 97 will be directed to take the signed detour of 210th Street to Goodview Avenue.
The lane closures are needed while crews finish constructing the roundabouts. The lanes will reopen by late August.
The work is part of a larger project to replace traffic signals at the north and south intersections of Highway 61 and Highway 97 and construct roundabouts. When completed in summer 2016, the $10.1 million project will improve traffic flow and safety, as well as improve pedestrian and bicycle facilities in the area. For more information about the project, visit mndot.gov/metro/projects/hwy61and97.
All work is weather dependent and may be rescheduled. MnDOT urges motorists to always be attentive, drive with caution and slowdown in work zones.
