Orange barrels on a highway

Daytime and overnight lane closures on I-94 scheduled Oct. 24-29

Roseville, Minn. – Motorists on westbound Interstate 94 will encounter several off-peak daytime and overnight lane closures between St. Paul and Maplewood next week. Beginning on Monday, Oct. 24, through Friday, Oct. 28 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily, westbound I-94 will be reduced to two lanes between Interstate 694 and Mounds Boulevard.

In addition, westbound I-94 will be reduced to two lanes between I-694 and Mounds Boulevard overnight on Monday, Oct. 24, Wednesday, Oct. 26 and Thursday, Oct. 27 from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following early-morning.

There will also be some periods of single lane traffic as crews will need a little more time and space to do their work on specific days.  Those days are as follows:

Tuesday, Oct. 25 beginning at 8 p.m. through 5 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 26, westbound I-94 will be reduced to a single lane from I-694 to McKnight Road.

Then, beginning at 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28 through 8 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, westbound I-94 will be reduced to a single lane from McKnight Road to Mounds Boulevard.

The closures are necessary as construction crews switch traffic to the original lanes that existed prior to the start of the project. Motorists will have three travel lanes in each direction through the project area during winter 2016-17.

All closure durations and time frames are approximate and weather dependent. MNDOT urges motorists to always be attentive, drive with caution and slowdown in work zones.

The work is part of a larger two-year project which includes resurfacing both directions of Interstate 94 from Mounds Blvd to just east of Century Avenue in Maplewood, constructing and replacing noise walls, adding and extending auxiliary lanes in specific locations, bridge maintenance, updating signals and pedestrian access and improving drainage system. The construction will provide a smoother, safer, longer-lasting road with better pedestrian accessibility and improved drainage capabilities. Construction is expected to be complete by late-fall 2017.
