Orange barrels on a highway

Hwy 12 opening Friday, Oct. 28 in Long Lake, Orono

ROSEVILLE, Minn. – Highway 12 between Hennepin County Road 112 (Wayzata Boulevard West) in Long Lake and Hennepin County Road 6 in Orono will open on Friday, Oct. 28, a week ahead of schedule.

MnDOT anticipates opening the eastbound lane of Highway by 5 a.m. on Friday, and the westbound lane by 3 p.m., weather permitting.

The highway has been closed since Oct. 17 for crews to install a concrete median barrier on the highway. The work was part of safety improvements for Highway 12 as recommended in the US 12 Road Safety Audit. The new barrier will increase safety by preventing crossover crashes.

“We would like to thank the residents of Long Lake and Orono for their support for the project and for their patience during the barrier installation,” stated Susan Youngs, Towards Zero Deaths regional coordinator. “The traveling public deserves our thanks as well.”
