Upcoming Hwy 36, Lexington Avenue and Hamline Avenue ramp closures planned as project nears completion
ROSEVILLE, Minn. -- Several upcoming closures beginning this evening on Highway 36 will allow construction crews to make significant progress toward completion of work on the new Highway 36 bridges and ramps at Lexington Avenue as well as complete resurfacing on Highway 36 and the ramps between westbound Hwy 36 and Hamline Avenue.
The closures kick off at 7 p.m. tonight when westbound Highway 36 will be restricted to a single lane between Dale Street and Hamline Avenue. At the same time, the on and off ramps between westbound Hwy 36 and Hamline Avenue will close for resurfacing. The ramps will reopen by 7 a.m. tomorrow but then will close again overnight from 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28 until 11 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29.
Eastbound Highway 36 also will close for resurfacing at 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28 between Hamline Avenue and Dale Street. The road will remain closed and detoured until 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 31. During the closure, motorists will follow a signed detour north on I-35W, east on I-694 and south on I-35E to continue east on Hwy 36.
The ramps from eastbound Highway 36 to Snelling Avenue and from Dale Street to eastbound Highway 36 will remain open.
Resurfacing of Lexington Avenue beneath the new Highway 36 bridges will begin early Monday, Oct. 31. Lexington Avenue and all the ramps between eastbound and westbound Highway 36 will be closed at 6 a.m. and remain closed until 6 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 1.
Additional work will continue on the ramps between Highway 36 and Lexington Avenue and the ramps are expected to open to traffic by mid-November.
Replacement of the old Hwy 36 bridge with two new bridges to carry eastbound and westbound Hwy 36 traffic began in mid-April. Work also included reconstruction and resurfacing of the ramps at Lexington Ave. and the westbound ramps at Hamline Ave. and the ramp from Dale St. to westbound Hwy 36 along with resurfacing of the highway between Hamline Ave. and Victoria St.
The new Hwy 36 bridges are longer lasting, smoother, wider and more modern structures.
