Orange barrels on a highway

Final weekend of westbound I-694 bridge painting set this weekend between New Brighton, Fridley

ROSEVILLE, Minn. – This upcoming weekend will be the final weekend of bridge painting on westbound Interstate 694 between I-35W in New Brighton and Highway 252 in Fridley. Westbound I-694 will close from 10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7 until 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 10 to complete painting the north half of five bridges crossing I-694 between I-35W in New Brighton and Highway 252 in Fridley.

During the closure, motorists can follow the signed detour north on I-35W, west on Highway 610 and Highway 10 and then back south on Highway 252 or find another alternate route to bypass the interstate closure.

And although the ramps leading to the westbound interstate will close, roads crossing the interstate will remain open. Motorists will have to find an alternate route to reach destinations along the westbound interstate.

While bridge painting (and full closures) will be completed this weekend, there will be some nighttime lane closures needed next week to apply a special finish to the bridge piers. For more information about the bridge painting project, please visit the website at www.mndot.gov/metro/projects/i694bridges/.

Painting bridges extends their life and helps maintain and preserve our valuable bridge system. It also improves their appearance.
