Weekend closure of I-94/I-494/I-694 interchange in east Twin Cities metro set for April 24-27

ROSEVILLE, Minn. — Motorists in the Woodbury and Oakdale area will encounter several traffic changes and detours this weekend as crews continue working on the I-94/I-494/I-694 interchange reconstruction project.

All four loop ramps of the I-94/494/694 interchange will close beginning at noon Friday, April 24. Motorists who normally use any of the closed loop ramps will still be able to reach their destination by following the posted detours to the Tamarack Road and 10th Street interchanges.

Both directions of I-94 at the interchange also will close beginning at 7 p.m. Friday, April 24. Westbound I-94 traffic will be detoured to I-694, 10th street, I-694 to I-94. Eastbound I-94 traffic will be detoured to I-494, Tamarack Road, I-494 to I-94.

All lanes and ramps listed above will reopen by 5 a.m. Monday, April 27, except the following ramps:

  • Eastbound I-94 to northbound I-694 loop
  • Northbound I-494 to westbound I-94 loop

These ramps will remain closed through September 2020.

The I-94/I-494/I-694 interchange and bridge reconstruction project is being done to provide a smoother, safer, long-lasting road with updated bridges and some mobility improvements. Performing periodic pavement repairs at the appropriate times can greatly increase a road’s lifespan. The project helps ensure MnDOT’s transportation system will continue to serve the state for many years. Construction is expected to be complete by fall 2020.

For more information about the project, visit mndot.gov/metro/projects/i94-494-694 and follow the project on Twitter @mndotnews for daily traffic updates.

MnDOT road work has been identified as a critical service in Gov. Walz’s Stay at Home executive order. We are being as flexible as possible with schedules during this period of lower traffic volumes to keep projects moving forward and minimize the impact to motorists. Following guidance from state and federal health officials, and to prevent further spread of COVID-19, crews will maintain social distancing practices while working.
