Sidewalks at Phalen Boulevard/Pennsylvania Avenue and Cayuga Street under I-35E are currently closed as the roads are being constructed.

Detours will direct pedestrians/bicyclists south to University Avenue to go east or west under I-35E (an alternate option for crossing I-35E is available at Maryland Avenue).

The sidewalks at Cayuga Street will remain closed until mid-November; in the meantime, the project team is working to schedule paving of a temporary sidewalk as soon as possible at Phalen Boulevard/Pennsylvania Avenue for another east/west connection. Thank you for your patience while we work to get another crossing completed.

  • The Gateway State Trail is closed between L’Orient Street and Cayuga Street. The closure is anticipated to remain in place through the duration of the project as crews work on excavation and reconstruction in the trail area.

Detour: Use L’Orient Street, Maryland Avenue, Jackson Street and Cayuga Street. As an alternate option, the Trout Brook Regional Trail is also available for use. The Trout Brook Regional Trail can be accessed from Jackson Street (just north of Maryland Avenue) and Jenks Avenue.

  • The Case Avenue/Mississippi Street intersection is closed and trail access is unavailable at this location. Trail access is currently available at Arlington Avenue.

Trail improvements

The I-35E/Cayuga Project will extend the Gateway Trail from Cayuga Street to University Avenue and add sidewalks and trails to Pennsylvania Avenue and Cayuga Street. See trail benefits map (PDF, 6.42 MB, 1 page).
