Lights temporarily turned off on Highway 43 bridges in Winona during mayfly hatching
WINONA, Minn. – Motorists crossing the Highway 43 bridges in Winona will notice that there are no overhead lights until the mayflies are done hatching, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
The lights on the bridges over the Mississippi River in Winona were turned off to reduce the number of mayflies on the bridge over the next few weeks. Mayflies are attracted to lights and having the mayflies on the bridge cause dangerous driving conditions because it becomes slippery.
