Highway 89 project near Grygla is underway

BEMIDJI, Minn. – Motorists traveling on Highway 89 near Grygla, Marshall County, will encounter roadwork as crews resurface the roadway, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation. The project began in early July and is expected to by complete late-August.

Travel impacts

Drivers may encounter temporary lane closures with flaggers, as well as slow-moving equipment. Expect brief delays when crews are present.

The Highway 89 project includes resurfacing and replacing culverts from Highway 219 to the Roseau County line. When complete, the project will improve the safety and drainage of Highway 89 near Grygla.  MnDOT advises motorists to avoid distractions and drive with caution in the work zone.

Important reminders for motorists regarding work zone safety:

Slow down when approaching every work zone, then navigate through with care and caution.

  • Stay alert; work zones constantly change.
  • Watch for workers and slow-moving equipment.
  • Obey posted speed limits. Fine for a violation in a work zone is $300.
  • Minimize distractions behind the wheel.
  • Be patient; expect delays, especially during peak travel times.
