Heavy traffic expected on Interstate 35 as motorists head for Duluth, Grandma’s Marathon
DULUTH, Minn. — The Minnesota Department of Transportation expects heavy traffic levels on Interstate 35 this week as travelers head to Duluth for the annual Grandma’s Marathon, scheduled for Saturday, June 18.
Marathon events, which officially begin Thursday, attract 50,000 to 60,000 visitors to the area each year.
Highway 61/London Road and the North Shore Scenic Highway will be closed during the race on Saturday.
Traffic is restricted to a single lane in each direction on I-35 in the Pine City/Hinckley area due to a road resurfacing project, and lengthy backups are expected. For more information about this project, visit: www.mndot.gov/d1/projects/I-35-Pine-County/.
To avoid traffic delays, MnDOT encourages visitors to come early and stay late or consider taking alternate routes.
