MnDOT finalized and delivered the highway design and construction plans for this Hwy 71 and Hwy 29 improvement project in 2024. Construction of this project is underway.

    Hwy 71

    North of Hwy 10
      • Reconstruct from Birch Ave. N and Elm Ave. N, includes underground city utilities and storm sewers and update sidewalks and approaches
      • Resurface (mill and overlay) from Elm Ave. N to half-mile north of Alfred St. N and replace or repair underground structures, includes a continuous center left-turn lane through Alfred St. and city trail
    South of Hwy 10
      • Resurface Franklin Ave. S to Aldrich Ave. S
      • Update sidewalks and ramps, includes signal systems at the Hwy 71 intersections of Hwy 29/Colfax Ave. S and remove/install overhead pedestrian flasher signal at Bryant Ave. S and street pedestrian flasher signal at Aldrich Ave. S

    Hwy 29

      • Resurface (mill and overlay) from the Otter Tail/Wadena county line to Hwy 71/Jefferson St. S
      • Update pedestrian sidewalk and ramps from Hwy 71 to Fifth St. SW
      • Replace underground pipe, update storm water drainage
