Hwy 316 Improvement Project

New compact-roundabouts are now open on Hwy 316 here’s how to drive them:

Compact-Roundabout Semi Truck Demonstration (St. James, MN)

1. Large truck north-bound left turn to west-bound
2. Large truck south-bound left turn to east-bound
3. Small truck south-bound to west-bound right turn at east mini-roundabout
4. Small truck south-bound to west-bound right turn at east mini-roundabout
5. Small truck east-bound to north-bound left turn at east mini-roundabout
6. Small truck east-bound through both mini-roundabouts

Traffic impacts

All traffic impacts are tentative and weather dependent. All businesses and residences will remain accessible throughout the project.

Upcoming

Information about upcoming traffic impacts in the spring of 2022 will be posted as details become available. Motorists can expect lane closures as work is completed.

About the project

The pavement on Hwy 316 from the north junction of Hwy 61 to Michael Ave. has outlived its useful life and will be replaced in 2021.

MnDOT studied other corridor improvements that will be implemented at the same time to help with safety and traffic flow for drivers, pedestrians, and bicyclists.

Summary of work

• Construct three roundabouts on Hwy 316 at Spiral Blvd., Tiffany Dr. and Tuttle Dr.
• Install center median on Hwy 316 to restrict certain movements at both public and private intersections
• Add designated facilities for pedestrians and bicyclists on both the east and west side of Hwy 316
• Add striped pedestrian crossings at specific locations along Hwy 316
• Update signing and lighting throughout the reconstruction area
