Mission Creek landscape restoration begins with tree clearing
Duluth, Minn. – Weather permitting, MnDOT maintenance crews will begin clearing a small number of trees at Highway23/Mission Creek on Wednesday, March 10. This work will take one to two days to complete and will have no major impacts to Highway 23 traffic.
The Mission Creek Landscape Restoration project is scheduled to begin in August, but tree clearing needs to take place now to comply with environmental regulations for protected bats.
Landscape restoration is being done in coordination with our project partners the Fond Du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa, Urban Ecosystems, Minnesota Indian Affairs Council, and the Office of the State Archeologist. Final landscape design includes a stone wall, spring fed waterway, gravel trail, stone sitting circle, and forest restoration.
