MnDOT Traffic Management System to be installed in Duluth
DULUTH, Minn. – From May 3 until June 12, MnDOT contractors will be installing a traffic management system on I-35 and Hwy 194 in Duluth. Work includes fiber optic cable installation and placement of camera poles. Motorists can expect intermittent short-term shoulder and lane closures of I-35 north and south bound between Lake Avenue and 4th Avenue East and Hwy 194 (Mesaba Avenue) just south of 1st Street. Closures may occur Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.
In addition to replacing the old Traffic Management System, this project will allow the connection of new camera locations and provide increased coverage throughout the corridor. Traffic Management Systems allow the State Patrol, MnDOT maintenance, and MnDOT Freeway Operations work together to quickly detect, respond to and remove incidents off of our highway systems. Additionally, these systems can provide real-time, accurate information about current road conditions.
