Motorists on Highways 1 and 59 will experience a detour May 6 through mid-July
BEMIDJI, Minn. — The Minnesota Department of Transportation has resumed construction of the roundabout at Highways 1 and 59 in Thief River Falls. Base construction is completed for the bypass lane at Highways 1 and 59. Paving is set to begin Tuesday, May 4. Although traffic impacts will be minimal, motorists should expect short term delays during paving.
Once paving is complete, approximately May 6, a detour will be in place:
- Eastbound and westbound traffic on Highway 1 will detour onto Pennington county roads 31 and 14.
- Southbound truck traffic on Highway 59, north of Highway 1, will utilize Pennington county road 31 east to Highway 32. Business access will be maintained throughout the project.
- Businesses located on Highway 1 west of the intersection will have access maintained on Highway 1 from the west. If traveling to one of the businesses from east of the intersection, follow detour.
This detour will be in place until approximately mid-July. MnDOT reminds drivers to slow down, avoid distractions and follow traffic signs in work zones.
