Hwy 4 detour lifts Oct. 18, lane closures continue as work wraps up

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – Those who travel on Highway 4 through Meire Grove, Stearns County, will begin see some changes Monday, Oct. 18, as the road reopens to through traffic and work wraps up through October.

The four-month detour on Highway 4 will lift on Oct. 18. Watch for workers and equipment along the detour route as they remove signs and traffic control devices.

Highway 4 will continue to be an active work area between Second Avenue N and Second Avenue S through October. Crews will pave a final layer of asphalt, install pavement markings, work on concrete sidewalks and curbs, and finish any other tasks along the project. Here’s what to expect:

  • Motorists to encounter periodic lane closures, lane shifts or access changes and heavy moving equipment. Be prepared to stop or slow down as flaggers direct traffic safely through the work area.
  • Pedestrians should use caution, watch for construction signs and stay out of closed areas.

Crews will work Monday–Saturday, sunrise to sunset, on good weather days until complete.

The $2.1 million project will provide a smoother road surface, updated stormwater run-off, and improved motorist and pedestrian access.
